The Lexington Dog Days of Summer 5K Run and Dog Walk is sponsored by the Lexington High School Cross Country to help promote the benefits of exercise, running, as well as the well-being of companion pets, dogs. The races will take place 8 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017, starting and finishing at Ray Ehlers Stadium at Lexington High School. The course will leave the stadium, continue on 13th street to the airport, go north on airport road to 20th street and loop back to the high school. Water stations will be available for both humans and dogs along the course.
T-shirts will be available for pre-registered entrants and free collapsible dog dishes and dog treats for those walking with their dogs. The top male and female runners (non-high school age) in the 5K race will win a pair of running shoes. In addition, age-division awards will be presented along with a drawing for prizes for entrants. Spring Creek Spa, 106 Bennett Drive-Lexington, will offer a drawing for pet owners. Refreshments will be available following the race along with a pass to the Lexington Aquatic Center for a swim (3 hr. time frame) to cool off.
Proceeds will go to the Lexington Cross Country team to help with costs with training and a donation will be made to the Humane Society and/or Animal Rescue.
