The Lexington Housing Rehabilitation Program is a grant-funded project to provide financial assistance to income-qualified homeowners to make home repairs and upgrades, including energy efficiency upgrades, accessibility for disabled residents, weatherization and exterior painting/siding. The assistance, available as a forgivable loan, has a maximum of $25,000 per home. Priority will be given to applications that eliminate hazardous conditions, reduce overcrowding, eliminate isolated incidence of deterioration, and/or create substantial energy conservation improvements. Applicants who demonstrate efforts toward proper maintenance will also receive priority ranking.
The goal of the program is to improve the quality of housing in Lexington. Providing rehab assistance results in an immediate improvement for the family in the home, and long-term improvement to neighborhoods through increasing home values and by preventing code issues.
The City, working with Miller & Associates, intends to provide funding for up to eight homes. Interested homeowners may get the initial application form from the City Office, 406 E. 7th St. Initial eligibility requires the home to be within city limits, and the household cannot exceed the Area Median Income (AMI) limits.
After all applications have been reviewed, applicants will be notified whether or not they have been approved. If approved, a contract will be signed by the homeowner, listing the improvements to be done and the estimated amount of construction. Applications will be accepted through the end of May.
