August Environmental Tip of the Month

Residents often don't realize that washing cars in our driveways or streets is one of the most environmentally un-friendly way we can do the job. Soapy runoff from washing your car picks up other pollutants and goes right into storm drains and eventually into the river...untreated. This poisons aquatic life and destroys the natural ecosystem.

It is always preferable to go to a commercial car washing facility. Sorry youth group fund-raisers, but your waste water also goes to the river. Federal laws require commercial car wash facilities to drain their wastewater into sanitary sewer systems, so it gets treated before it is discharged back into the environment.
